MarkDownPro Privacy Policy

Last updated 11 August 2026

MarkDownPro converts your documents on your own PC. It has no account system, collects no analytics, and sends nothing anywhere unless you ask it to.

The short version. Files you convert stay on your computer. We never receive them, and we never receive anything about you. Three features reach the internet, and each one only does so because you started it: opening a web address you typed, fetching a YouTube transcript, and audio transcription - which is switched off until you turn it on.

What we collect

Nothing. MarkDownPro has no telemetry, no analytics, no crash reporting and no advertising. There is no account to create and no sign-in. We operate no servers that the app talks to.

What stays on your PC

The app keeps a small settings file in your local application data holding your theme choice, window size, preferences, and a list of recently converted file names so the Recent menu works. It never leaves your computer, and uninstalling the app removes it. Converted Markdown is written only where and when you choose to save it.

When the app uses the internet

FeatureWhat is sent, and to whom
Converting a web address The app requests the page directly from the website whose address you entered, exactly as a browser would. Nothing passes through us.
YouTube pages The app requests the video's public transcript from YouTube. No account or identifier of yours is attached.
Audio transcription (off by default) If, and only if, you switch this on, the audio file is uploaded to Google's speech recognition service to be converted to text, and is handled under Google's privacy policy. With the setting off, audio files still convert - you get their details, without a transcript. You can change this at any time under About → Privacy.

Everything else - PDFs, Word documents, slide decks, spreadsheets, email files, images, scanned pages and archives - is processed entirely offline. Optical character recognition uses the OCR engine built into Windows and runs on your machine. Token counting uses an encoding table shipped inside the app, so it needs no network either.

Purchases

MarkDownPro Unlimited is sold through the Microsoft Store. Your payment is handled entirely by Microsoft; we never see your payment details, billing address, or Microsoft account. The app asks Windows whether a licence for the add-on exists and gets back yes or no. Nothing else.

Children

MarkDownPro is a general-purpose utility. It is not directed at children and collects no personal information from anyone, of any age.

Your rights

Rights such as access, correction, export and erasure apply to personal data a company holds about you. We hold none, so there is nothing for us to retrieve or delete. Data on your own PC is yours: delete the settings folder, or uninstall the app, and it is gone.

Third-party components

MarkDownPro is built on open-source software, including Microsoft's MarkItDown library. The complete list, with licences, is shown in the app under About. MarkDownPro is an independent product and is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by Microsoft Corporation.

Changes

If this policy changes, the updated version will be posted here with a new date above. Material changes to what the app sends over the network will also be reflected in the app itself.
